Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
EMO ("EMO," "we," "us," or "our") helps you track and understand your emotional patterns. Your inner life is deeply personal, and we built EMO to be private by default. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the EMO website at emochart.app and the EMO mobile app.
1. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run EMO:
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, and optionally your name, birthday, and the sign-in method you use (Apple, Google, or email).
Your check-ins and journals. The emotional signal ratings, notes, and journal entries you create. This is sensitive personal information, and we treat it that way. Your journal text never appears in any public, social, or shared surface unless you explicitly choose to share a sanitized recap.
Circle information. If you invite people to your Circle, we store the invitations, membership, the privacy level you set for each person, and any reactions or messages exchanged.
Subscription information. If you subscribe to EMO Pro, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We never see or store your full card number. We store your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference.
Device and usage information. Basic technical data such as app version, and, if you enable them, push-notification tokens so we can send your daily check-in reminder.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to provide EMO's core features: scoring your check-ins, building your trends and weekly recaps, generating AI insights, running your Circle, sending the reminders you opt into, and processing your subscription. We also use it to keep EMO secure and to improve how the product works.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your journal content to serve advertising.
3. AI processing
When you write a journal entry, EMO may send the text to our AI provider (Anthropic) to analyze emotional signals and themes and to generate reflections. This processing happens to give you your results and to build your personal pattern memory. We do not use your entries to train third-party AI models. If you would rather not use AI analysis, you can use Quick check-ins (sliders) instead of Journal entries.
4. How we share information
We share information only with service providers that help us operate EMO, and only as needed to provide the service:
Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (subscription payments), Anthropic (AI journal analysis), Resend (Circle invitation emails), and Vercel (hosting). Each processes data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of a person, or in connection with a business transfer. We will never share your private journal content with other users; only the specific, sanitized information you choose to share reaches your Circle.
5. Your choices and rights
You can view and edit your profile and signals at any time in the app. You can delete individual entries, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information; we honor these requests for all users.
6. Data retention and security
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide EMO. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data, except where we must retain limited records for legal or financial reasons. We use industry- standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what you trust us with.
7. Children
EMO is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are under the age of majority where you live, please use EMO only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. A note on wellbeing
EMO is a self-reflection tool, not a medical device or a substitute for professional care. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please reach out to a local emergency number or a crisis line (in the US, call or text 988). EMO surfaces crisis resources when it detects concerning content, and it does not store the text of an entry flagged in crisis.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as EMO evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
